Tickets for the 2018 HSBC Canada Sevens tournament continue to sell steadily, with only General Admission tickets remaining. While most ticket sales are coming from British Columbia, there have been purchases from a total of 9 Canadian provinces and 17 American states. Overseas sales are currently comprised of 14 other countries, including first-ever purchases from Guatemala and Hungary, making the tournament a true international event.

“Ticket sales are again going strong,” said Jamie Levchuk, Managing Director for Canada Sevens. “With about 80% of our 40,000 per day ticket inventory sold, I encourage fans who have not yet purchased their tickets to do so quickly to avoid missing out. We also continue to work with our valued sponsors and partners to expand our footprint and build on the strong foundation of excellence and celebration that has made the HSBC Canada Sevens a success in its first two years!”

While the tournament is returning for the third year to Vancouver, 2018 will mark the launch of Canada Sevens House, a place where fans will be able to celebrate throughout the event weekend. Canada Sevens House will be close to BC Place Stadium at the Boston Pizza at 808 Beatty Street. More information on Canada Sevens House, including tickets to exclusive functions, will be available at www.canadasevens.com in the coming weeks.

In addition to Canada Sevens House, there will be a full week of activities leading up to the tournament, as the 16 competing nations arrive on Monday, March 5 from the previous World Series event in Las Vegas. Activities include the popular Captain’s photo and media availability on Wednesday, March 7 at a Vancouver landmark, as well as each of the teams making a visit to a school, youth centre or First Nation community during the week. The event also employs over 100 volunteers, who include the 41 tournament team liaisons who will support the 16 men’s sevens teams in all aspects of their stay in Vancouver. Liaisons come to the Canada Sevens from the Lower Mainland, across Canada and even internationally. Tournament organizers book over 2,000 hotel room nights for players, officials and staff – and fans in need of accommodation can check out stayvancouverhotels.com for Vancouver hotel options.

“An event of this scope and scale is a true game changer for the development of rugby and rugby sevens in Canada,” said Allen Vansen, CEO, Rugby Canada. “We continue to seek opportunities to elevate the profile of the game in Canada and around the world, and we are grateful for the continued support of both our team and tournament sponsors. Together, they provide us with the resources needed to develop world-class competitors and showcase them on the world stage.”

After the first 2 events of the 2018 HSBC Sevens Series, the Canadian men currently sit 7th in the rankings, and will resume competition on January 26th at the Sydney Sevens in Australia. Sydney will be the third of 10 Series stops, while Vancouver is again the 6th stop on the global tour and serves as a strong motivator for the Canadian men who captured their first-ever HSBC Series tournament title last April in Singapore, going on to finish 8th overall on the Series.
