8 Pop-Culture Costumes We Hope to See At Canada Sevens
The week of HSBC Canada Sevens has arrived! On March 11-12 2017 BC Place will be lit up with the electric play on the field…and the vibrant characters in the stands. The fans of Canada Sevens will be in full flare, dressed in ‘Fancy Dress’ of anything you can possibly imagine. Now if you are struggling to think of a costume, all you have to do is turn to the latest pop-culture phenomenon’s and you can find inspiration.
Here are 8 pop-culture costumes we hope you wear to the 2017 Canada Sevens tournament!
1. Deadpool
What could be a more fitting Canada Sevens costume. Deadpool is played by a Vancouverite (Ryan Reynolds). He’s downright hilarious. He’s fast as lightning. He’d make a great rugby player and he’s bad *ss. What more can we say.
What to wear: Slim fitting red and black suit, a mask, a new found affinity for dirty jokes and a dark sense of humour!
2. Storm Troopers
What’s more fun than getting together with friends and watching rugby sevens? Getting together with friends in storm trooper costumes and watching rugby sevens. With the new saga of Star Wars movies rolling out, nothing will be more relevant for the next decade. The only Evil Force you might encounter is trying to drink your suds with that helmet on.
What to Wear: Storm trooper mask, and suit, a rather stoic personality, and make sure to bring straws so you can drink your brews!
3. Lemonade Beyoncè
The world can always use more Beyoncès.
What to Wear: Bright yellow dress, stilettos, an inflatable baseball bat and an empty hot sauce bottle in your bag swag. Make sure to crimp your hair for the ultimate effect.
4. Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy
This is on this list because who doesn’t love Groot? The character even comes in an adult & baby versions! Dress up like him and ‘groot’ for your favourite squad.
What to Wear: Twigs. And make sure to use the phrase “I am Groot”.
5. Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad
Now this is one chick you don’t want to mess with! When stepping into her wacky, wild and leaning towards creepy persona make sure to call your main man by the name of Puddin’.
What to wear: Pigtails, a dog collar, fishnets, and a tonne of face makeup. Be advised no baseball bats are allowed in BC Place.
6. Resurrected John Snow
Don’t worry Jon Snow, the Wildlings and the night’s watch can’t find you amongst the crowded Canada Sevens stands.
What to wear: Let your beard and flow grow, a little makeup for the knife gashes on your chest and pain staking-ly pale skin. A constant terrified look on your face will add to the mystique.
7. Eleven from Stranger Things
Not much for cheering? Well come as Eleven & part of your character is to be silent. Also, make sure you only eat Eggos and like to play mind games!
What to wear: Shave you’re head, wear a pink dress, wield a box of delicious egos, and deploy your mind control.
8. The Donald.
And last but certainly not least…The Donald. We’ll let you interpret this costume how you will.
What to Wear: Suit, tie, strawberry blond wig with half its hair, shrink your hands and make sure to practice your pucker!
